Computer Virus Update
This is an important reminder for keeping both your home and work computers up-to-date with the latest operating system patches and anti-virus updates. National and International media are reporting on a computer virus that is affecting a large number of Windows-based computers commonly referred to in media as a “sleeper virus.” This virus is also known to try to “crack” easily-guessed passwords of users to further infect a computer. Users are asked to review their passwords and to not use passwords that can be found in a dictionary even if a number or a series of numbers are placed at the end.
As of 1/16/09 at 1pm, there have been NO reported instances of this virus on the LMU network. Users are asked to be vigilant by ensuring their operating system patches and anti-virus updates are up-to-date both at home and at work. Additionally, users with weak passwords (those that are primarily a word found in a dictionary) should consider changing their passwords for added protection.
