- Check the sender’s full email address — hover or tap the name to reveal it.
- Verify requests through another method (call, text, or in person).
- Forward suspicious emails to: servicedesk@lmu.edu.
- Look for the yellow “External Email” banner — be extra cautious with links and attachments.
Use Strong Passwords or Passphrases
Creating long, complex passwords is one of the easiest ways to protect yourself from cybercrime.
Quick Tips for Secure Passwords
- Use at least 12 characters.
- Avoid reusing passwords — keep them unique across accounts.
- Try a passphrase: a string of random words that’s easy for you to remember, but hard to guess.
- Never use your LMU/LLS email or password for non-university accounts.

Duo Safety Tips
- Never approve unexpected Duo prompts.
- If you receive a Duo request you didn’t initiate:
- Do not approve it.
- Change your password immediately.
- Take a screenshot and email it to servicedesk@lmu.edu.
- If you think you accidentally approved a fraudulent Duo prompt or were targeted by phishing:
- Change your password right away.
- Contact the ITS Service Desk for support.
