Previous Events

The following is a compilation of events and workshops offered by various LMU departments in previous years.

    • ITS Workshop for Staff (Jul. 18, 2024) - Over 180 staff attended this inagural session with emphasis on artificial intelligence and included topics on AI overview, practical uses with Copilot, learning resources, and the "Ask ITS" drop-in office hour with Zoom breakout rooms.     • Faculty Discussion on AI and ChatGPT (Jan. 19, 2023), hosted by CTE and facilitated by Robert Rovetti (MATH). Faculty from across colleges gathered for a conversation about AI to discuss what it is, approaches to our classes, and faculty needs moving forward.
    • Teaching with Technology Day, (Feb. 10, 2023) an all-day event co-hosted by CTE and ITS, with keynote speakers and faculty presentations. The keynote topic was "Artificial Intelligence: What’s All the Buzz About?! ChatGPT, Midjourney, and Open AI" and the theme was on AI in Higher Education, including how Ignatian Pedagogy intersects with AI. Watch the keynote recording here.
    • Innovation Symposium on Disruptive Technologies and Education (Mar. 18, 2023), co-hosted by School of Education and College of Business at the Playa Vista Campus. CTE Faculty Fellow, Prof. Elizabeth Drummond (HIST) was a keynote speaker. View symposium details here. Read the LMU News article here.
    • Writing, Academic Honesty, and Support of International Students (Mar. 23, 2023) hosted by CTE, with CTE Faculty Fellows, Katerina Zacharia (OISS Fellow) and Michael Noltemeyer (ARC Fellow). This event focused on the use of AI in writing assignments and overall support for international students specifically when it comes to writing and academic honesty.
    • Writing Pedagogy and ChatGPT (Apr. 14, 2023), a partnership between CTE and the Core and LMU Writing Instructors for a 5-hour workshop that featured many presentations and demonstrations about ChatGPT. Faculty heard about various approaches to pedagogy and writing assignments in light of ChatGPT (including what it can and cannot do).
    • Using AI in the Classroom: A Teacher’s Lens (Apr. 26, 2023) focused on the concerns teachers might have around AI in the classroom, the ways teachers can use AI with their students, and they can leverage AI to do things like lesson plan, build quizzes, write emails, and more.
