Windows 11 Upgrade

Windows 11 Upgrade

As part of an ongoing commitment to maintain a secure computing environment and protect LMU's data and systems, Information Technology Services (ITS) is upgrading all PC computers from Windows 10 to Windows 11. Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025, meaning computers running this operating system will no longer receive security updates.

How will you be impacted?

If your computer is already running Windows 11: No further action is required.

If your computer is running Windows 10: Your device will no longer receive security updates, making it vulnerable to viruses and malware. While your computer will continue to function, using an unsupported operating system puts both your work and LMU's network at risk.

ITS has purchased extended security update licenses to provide temporary protection, but it is critical that we remediate this issue as soon as possible.

Next Steps

The majority of LMU computers have already been successfully upgraded to Windows 11, and ITS is diligently working through the remaining Windows 10 devices on campus. ITS will be reaching out to all users with Windows 10 devices to assess their computers and discuss upgrade or replacement options. Please respond promptly to these communications to ensure your device remains secure and compliant with LMU's security standards.

  • 1. Click here to open your computer's Settings application

    2. Scroll down to Windows specifications, where you should see a line for Edition that will either say "Windows 10 Education" or "Windows 11 Education"

  • Your options may be different depending on whether your computer is on the Resource Management Plan (RMP) or not:

RMP Computers (red tag)ITS will contact you to start the computer replacement process. Please keep an eye out for emails from servicedesk@lmu.edu prompting you to select a new computer.

NON Computers (blue tag): Your computer will not be eligible for replacement through the Resource Management Plan. If your computer is compatible with Windows 11, ITS will contact you to schedule a time to perform an upgrade. If your computer is not compatible with Windows 11, an ITS representative will connect with you to discuss your options for replacing the computer.
